Fashioned by the Maker: You Were Built with Purpose
Friend,
Ever feel like you don’t quite measure up?
Like something’s flawed in the way you were made—too emotional, too complicated, too much?
Before you accept that lie, let’s go back to the beginning—where the hands of the Maker shaped woman with purpose.
Beauty in the Details
Genesis 2 gives us a more intimate look at the creation of humanity. It tells us that God formed man from the dust of the ground. But when no suitable helper was found for him, God did something different—something intentional.
He caused Adam to sleep, and then, in the quiet of that moment, God fashioned a woman.
Not formed the same way.
Not created from dust.
But fashioned—built—crafted from a rib.
Then the Lord God made the rib he had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man.
Genesis 2:22, Csb
The Hebrew word used here is different from the one used to describe Adam’s creation. Where formed means shaped like a potter with clay, fashioned means built, as one would carefully construct something with design and purpose.
Let that truth settle into your heart:
You were not an afterthought.
You were built with a purpose by a Creator who knew exactly what He was doing.
And Adam? He had no input.
He didn’t hand God a checklist or rattle off a list of preferences.
God knew what Adam needed—and He knew what you would one day bring into the world as a woman.
This truth is for every woman—but especially the one who feels like her past has warped the design.
Maybe you’ve made choices that left you feeling like a defective version of who you were supposed to be. Maybe you’ve disqualified yourself in your mind from being a godly wife, a nurturing mother, or a faithful servant in your church.
But friend—God’s original design hasn’t changed. He fashioned you on purpose, and He is still shaping your future with that same tender care.
What this means for You
Being a woman isn’t a flaw to overcome—it’s a gift to embrace.
And your past doesn’t undo God’s design.
You were built by the Maker—not by accident, not in shame, and not without purpose.
So even if you feel broken, disqualified, or hidden in your role as a wife, mother, or servant in your church—your God says, “I built you. I know what I’m doing.”
Questions to Sit with
- Do I believe I was fashioned by God with intention, or do I feel like a mistake?
- How has my view of womanhood been shaped by shame or past regret?
- What would it look like to live today as someone who was purposefully built by the Maker?
Yet Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we all are the work of your hands.
isasiah 64:8, Csb
Let this Sink in
You were fashioned by a loving God who knows exactly what He’s doing.
Even now, He continues to build, restore, and repurpose your life for His glory.
Don’t fight the design.
Embrace the grace.
I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well.
psalm 139:14, Csb
