Not Fear but Strength: Holding on to Isaiah 41:10
Most of us have favorite verses, but some verses anchor us for life.
We hold them close—clinging to their truth in both steady seasons and stormy ones.
Isaiah 41:10 has been that for me.
And if you’re walking through something heavy—something silent and shrouded in shame or fear—I want to share why this verse may be for you too.
The Story Behind the Verse
Between my junior and senior year of high school, I spent the summer working as a camp counselor at the Christian camp I’d grown up attending. I loved that summer—hanging out with kids, feeling independent, forming friendships with young men and women who were serious about their walk with the Lord.
But more than anything, I loved how God met me that summer.
Looking back, I believe it was during those weeks that He gave me what I now call my Life Verse.
I don’t remember how I came across it—maybe someone shared it during a chapel talk or read it during staff devotions. Maybe I came across it during my own quiet time. I only know this: when I read it, it settled into my soul so deeply, I knew I would carry it with me for life.
Fear not for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am Your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
isaiah 41:10, esv
Now here’s the thing—I wasn’t a naturally fearful or anxious person. But this verse still struck a deep chord in me.
Why? Because it told me something my heart needed to know even then:
God is with me. He is my God. He will strengthen me.
That promise strengthened my heart.
This verse became a lifeline that I’ve held onto through many difficult seasons in my life—moments where I felt confused, weak, or even ashamed.
It reminded me that I don’t have to muster up my own strength. I don’t have to fix everything or carry the weight of it all alone.
God would do that. God has done that.
And friend—He will do that for you, too.
What this means for You
If you’re silently suffering today—wrestling with shame from your past, or walking through something no one else knows about—Isaiah 41:10 is for you.
You may not feel strong.
You may not even feel seen.
But God sees. God strengthens. God upholds.
This verse isn’t just a nice sentiment—it’s a promise from the God who is still near, even when He feels quiet.
And He’s not asking you to be fearless in your own power.
He’s offering you His strength in your weakness.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart, my portion forever.
psalm 73:26, csb
Pause & Reflect with Jesus
- What situation in your life feels too heavy to carry right now?
- Do you believe God is with you in it? Why or why not?
- What would it look like to lean into His strength instead of your own?
One Final Thought ~
God doesn’t ask you to never feel fear—He tells you not to live in it.
Not because you’re strong on your own, but because He is strong for you.
He is with you.
He is your God.
He will strengthen, help, and uphold you—no matter what you’re facing.
You may feel like you’re barely holding it together, but I promise you: His righteous right hand is holding you.
But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.’ Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me… For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10, csb
