We’re All Dirty (But Not Beyond Grace)
Did You Know . . .
You’re not the only one.
You feel stained—disqualified—like the dirtiest woman in the pew.
But let me remind you: we’re all dirty. And still, Jesus came.
There’s a truth that echoes throughout all of Scripture, one we’re quick to quote and slow to let sink in:
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; and they are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
Romans 3:23-24, Csb
Let that settle into your heart.
We’ve all sinned.
We’ve all fallen short.
But God didn’t leave us there.
God presented Him as the mercy seat, by His blood, though faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His restraint God passed over the sins previously committed. God presented Him to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and justify the one who has faith in Jesus.
Romans 3:25-26, Csb
Friend,
God chose to put His mercy on display through Jesus—for you.
That means even if your past includes a secret abortion— or something else no one knows about—this still applies:
God sees you.
He knows the full story.
And He still chose to offer grace.
What this means for you . . .
If you’ve been living under the weight of shame—believing that your past disqualifies you from serving other women or from walking closely with God—please hear this:
You are not the exception.
You are not too far gone.
You are not beyond His reach.
Jesus didn’t wait for you to clean yourself up. He met you in your mess and made a way through His blood.
You have been justified freely and declared righteous—not because of what you’ve done, but because of what He’s done.
Questions to Sit with . . .
- What part of your past makes you feel disqualified from ministry or unworthy of God’s love?
- How do these verses challenge the shame you’ve been carrying?
- Can you take a moment today to thank Jesus for being your mercy seat?
One Final Thought . . .
Let’s not fall into two traps—thinking we’re “good enough” on our own, or thinking we’re too far gone to be redeemed.
We’re all sinners.
But we’re also all invited to come boldly—cleansed, clothed in grace, and called to walk in new life.
But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us—not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to His mercy—through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit. He poured out his Spirit on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior so that, having been justified by His grace, we may become heirs with the hope of eternal life.
Titus 3:4-7, Csb
